Behind the Lumina Gem Commercial:
A Rare, Perfect Day on Set
Perfection isn’t something you expect on a commercial shoot. Weather shifts, equipment malfunctions, or an unexpected crowd can upend even the best-laid plans. But on one Monday in June, on Wrightsville Beach, everything came together.
Our team at Tayloe/Gray set out to tell a love story for Lumina Gem, a boutique jeweler we’ve partnered with for more than a decade. Their brand promise, “If you can dream it, you can wear it” inspired a 30-second commercial that followed a couple’s journey from childhood friendship to beachfront proposal.
Bringing that vision to life took months of planning and, ultimately, a production day that couldn’t have gone smoother. Here’s how it came together:
Storyboarding
We designed a visual arc that balanced romance and nostalgia, mapping every shot to guide pacing, mood, and emotion.
Casting & Wardrobe
Four talented local actors portrayed the couple—two as children, two as adults. Styled in timeless, beach-ready looks, they captured the story’s simplicity and warmth.
Location Scouting
Wrightsville Beach’s Access 40 offered the perfect natural backdrop: soft dunes, wide-open views, and proximity to Lumina Gem’s bright, welcoming showroom.
Production Logistics
Call times were clear, props were ready, and every detail, right down to handwritten notes and roses, was in place. Our crew moved seamlessly from the beach to the showroom without a single delay.
Cinematic Execution
With Josh Stevens of Self-Titled Media behind the camera, every scene was captured with intention—steadycam sweeps, probe lens detail shots, and close-ups that highlighted both emotion and craftsmanship.
Voiceover, Editing & Sound Design
In post-production, our editors shaped the footage into a seamless 30-second story. Sunset tones were graded for warmth, pacing aligned with a romantic score, and voiceover brought Lumina Gem’s message to life. The final cut felt as polished as the jewelry it showcased.
Client Collaboration
The Lumina Gem team was hands-on throughout, reviewing edits and weighing in on creative choices. That collaboration ensured the spot was not only cinematic but also deeply true to their brand and vision.
Publication & Local Reach
Once approved, the commercial rolled out across multiple channels. Regionally, it’s airing on broadcast TV and streaming through Spectrum, WECT, and WWAY. We’re also cutting a :15 version for YouTube pre-roll, timed to run September through the holiday season. Together, these placements ensure Lumina Gem’s story reaches audiences where they are—on air, online, and everywhere in between.
